Website Development
UNIT10 builds websites the way modern software is built: version-controlled, performance-first, and structured to be extended rather than rebuilt every few years.

Development that doesn't fight you later
A lot of local business websites are built fast and cheap, on a stack of page-builder plugins that slows down every time you add a new one. It works for a year, then every update becomes fragile, every plugin update risks breaking the layout, and the site gets slower every time Google measures it.
UNIT10 builds two ways, chosen deliberately per project rather than by default: modern React-based builds (typically Next.js) for sites that need speed, flexibility and room to grow into real functionality, and best-practice WordPress builds for content-heavy sites where a client team needs to self-manage a large volume of pages through a familiar CMS.
Either way, the build is clean: no bloated plugin stacks, no unnecessary dependencies, code that's actually maintainable by whoever touches it next — including another developer, if it ever comes to that.
Performance is a feature, not an afterthought
Site speed affects three things at once: how many visitors actually wait for your page to load, how Google ranks you, and how many of those visitors convert into enquiries. We build with Core Web Vitals as a hard requirement, not a nice-to-have — optimised images, minimal JavaScript, efficient fonts, and hosting/CDN setup that serves pages fast wherever your customers are.
This matters more for local businesses than most agencies admit: a plumber's customer searching on a phone standing in a leaking bathroom will leave a slow site in seconds and call the next result instead.
Built on foundations that scale
The website you need today is rarely the whole picture. A brochure site now might need a booking system next year, a customer portal the year after, or an integration with a CRM once you're getting real enquiry volume. We build the front-end architecture, the content structure and the technical foundations so that when that day comes, we're extending what exists — not starting again.
This is the difference between a website as a one-off marketing spend and a website as the first piece of your digital infrastructure. See Business Software for what that path looks like when you're ready.
Security, accessibility and standards
Every build includes HTTPS, secure form handling, sensible input validation, and dependency hygiene so the site isn't quietly accumulating vulnerabilities in outdated plugins. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility guidelines wherever practically achievable — see our Accessibility service — because an accessible site is a better site for every user, and increasingly a legal expectation, not an optional extra.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose WordPress or a custom-built site like Next.js?
It depends on who needs to manage the content and how much the site needs to do. WordPress (built properly, not plugin-stacked) is a strong choice when a non-technical team needs to add and edit lots of pages themselves and the site is mostly content. A custom Next.js build is the stronger choice when performance, custom functionality, or a future path into software and integrations matters more than DIY content editing. We'll recommend honestly based on your situation, not push whichever we prefer building.
How long does website development take?
A focused brochure site typically takes 4–8 weeks from approved design to launch. Larger sites with custom functionality, more pages or integrations take longer — we give you a realistic timeline once scope is defined, and we'd rather under-promise than rush a launch.
Will I be able to update the site myself after launch?
Yes. Every build includes a CMS or content management setup appropriate to the platform, and we provide guidance (and training, if needed) so your team can update text, images and basic content without needing a developer for every small change.
Do you handle hosting and domains too?
Yes — see our Hosting service. We can manage hosting, DNS, SSL and ongoing technical maintenance, or hand over full access if you'd rather manage it yourself.
